We started with one boat and a simple conviction: the reefs around the Gili Islands deserve a calmer, more personal experience than the usual rush-through-the-checklist approach. We keep groups small so the pace stays relaxed, the reef feels less crowded, and the guiding stays personal.

On this water every single day

GiliGoTrip was built around a simple idea: snorkeling should feel like discovery, not like a conveyor belt. Made grew up on these islands and has spent years on the water here. Wayan brings a strong eye for marine life and conditions. Together, they've guided guests through the reefs of Gili Trawangan, Gili Meno, and Gili Air. Every trip is shaped by the weather, current, visibility, and tide, so no two mornings feel exactly the same.

Small groups, always

Never more than 8 guests. Usually 4–6. We remember your name, your comfort level, and the pace that feels right for you.

The reef comes first

We don't touch coral or chase turtles. We show guests how to move slowly, stay relaxed, and let the reef come to them. That's how you see more, not less.

Local guides, local knowledge

No imported dive instructors running a script. Made and Wayan know these waters well and adapt each trip to the conditions of the day.

Your guides know this water

Small groups, calm briefings, and local guides who adapt each route to the day's conditions.

Made

Senior Guide · 10 years

English, Indonesian

Made grew up on Gili Trawangan. He's been in this water every morning — before the island wakes up, he's already checking the reef. He knows every turtle by shell pattern, every coral formation by name, and exactly where the hawksbills rest at 6am. Marine biology background, SSI certified.

Wayan — GiliGoTrip Snorkeling guide — Gili Trawangan

Wayan

Marine Guide · 6 years

English, Indonesian, French

Wayan brings a marine biology eye and a talent for making nervous swimmers feel at ease. He spots species most snorkelers swim right past — nudibranch, seahorses, cleaning stations. Fluent in French, which makes him the go-to guide for European guests. He'll adjust the route mid-trip based on conditions, and he always finds the clearest water.

Local snorkeling tips

Planning a snorkeling trip on Gili Trawangan? Here are a few things we tell guests before they get in the water.

Go early — 6am to 8am is the magic window

The water is usually calmest at dawn, which is why we like early departures. It gives you more time to settle in before the day gets busier.

Wear a rash guard, not sunscreen

A long-sleeve rash guard is more comfortable for longer sessions and gives you extra protection in the water. If you use sunscreen, choose a reef-safe option.

Don't kick near coral

Stay horizontal in the water and use slow, steady fin kicks. If the current changes, slow down and follow your guide's direction.

Let the turtles come to you

The biggest mistake snorkelers make is chasing turtles. Stay still, float at the surface, and breathe slowly. Calm guests usually have the better experience.

Look down, not ahead

Most of the action is directly below you, not far ahead. The best sightings usually happen when you slow down and take time to look around the reef.
